Travels - Mar in Maui

Pictures - as promised

Lahaina

So how do you get around from the Hotel to other spots in Lahaina - you take the Kaanapali Trolly.

This is the Lahaina Banyan Tree - the largest and oldest banyan tree in the world. I covers a whole city block - multi acres. (See an earlier post about what a banyan tree is.)

This is the old fort.
In the harbor is a sunken ship. They have not removed it because doing so would disturb the native coral. The natives said he deserved to sink because he was a bad pilot. Mar said it is a little disturbing to see it sitting out there.
They went to the Aloha Center - a local visit to native Hawaii. Hale means "house". They saw banana trees and the way people really lived in the old days. Notice the picture of Brenda and how short the doors really were.
In Lahaina there is an upscale shopping district called Whaler's Village. It had nice shops, a Hard Rock Cafe, a Bubba Gumps - just a nice atmosphere. It also had a bunch of "sculptures" - fun caricatures.
